Program Overview
The East Coast Wizard Development Program for the 2022 – 2023 season is geared toward players born in 2014 – 2017 that have some skating and hockey experience and who want to get prepared for a Wizard team for the following season. This is a coed program that follows the principals of the American Development Model (ADM). Practices will be on Saturday afternoon at The Edge Sports Center in Bedford and will focus on skill development in the areas of skating, passing, shooting, and puck handling. Sunday morning will be game day at the Edge and will be comprised of cross-ice and small area games to emphasize fun and skill development. The program will run from September 24, 2022 through March 5, 2023.
The program is led by John O’Neill with help form parent volunteers, Wizard Jr players, and other Wizard staff. Some information about John is included below. Please let us know if you would like to help coach this season!
John O’Neill
John has over 35 years of coaching / playing experience. Played and coached with my brother (Bill O’Neill – 40 years as Head Coach) at Salem State then went on to play and coach in France. Worked for the Massachusetts Satellite program under the direction of Dan Esdale, running on/off ice clinics for youth coaches to get their coaching certificates. Worked hand and hand with all the local colleges / prep school coaches. Coached the Mass 17 team with Steve Dagdigian. John also coached at 3 high schools; Bishop Fenwick, Beverly, and Winthrop. He has spent countless hours running numerous skills for 100’s of youth organizations with players of all ages from Connecticut – Maine.
