Wizard Alums win ECAC Awards

Congratulations for former Wizard players Gillis Frechette and Becca Gilmour on winning ECAC honors.

ECAC Hockey has announced the league all-star teams and that the recipient of the 2022 women’s Best Forward award is Cornell University junior Gillis Frechette. She is the fourth Big Red skater to receive this honor since the awards inception in 2008, and the first since Brianne Jenner in 2015.

Forward: Gillis Frechette, Cornell University – First Team All ECAC and Forward of the Year

Frechette (Jr. – Weston, Mass.) led ECAC Hockey skaters in scoring during league games by a wide margin, recording 36 of her 40 total points against ECAC Hockey opponents. She found the back of the net 10 times and dished out 26 assists, finishing with a +25 on-ice rating for the Big Red. She was consistent throughout the year, finding the scoresheet in 18 of 22 league contests, which included 12 multi-point performances. Three of her 10 goals were game winners, which was good for second in the conference.

Frechette’s best stretch of the season came in early February, when she went three straight games recording multiple points. She notched four (2-2) on February 1st against St. Lawrence, two (0-2) on February 5th against Harvard, and three (1-2) the following night against Colgate.

Forward: Becca Gilmore, Harvard University – Second Team All ECAC

Returning to the ice after a year away, Gilmore (Sr. – Wayland, Mass.) did not lose a step, and in fact may have gained one, as she put together the best season of her Crimson career. She registered 45 points, 29 of which came in ECAC Hockey play where she scored 11 goals and dished out 18 assists. A strong 200-foot player, she also recorded 22 blocks on the season.
